Otherwise, I'm pretty sure that loading it up would have taken much more effort.
#BUTEL ARC 500 SOFTWARE#
I would highly recommend this radio to anyone that has experience with scanners, and is willing to spend a few extra dollars to purchase the software and download subscritions. I just downloaded the latest CPU firmware from the GRE website, and it was simple to get it uploaded into the radio. However, since I've only been using it for reference, it has also worked out very well.
#BUTEL ARC 500 MANUAL#
The manual is hefty, and takes a bit to get through. The computer to radio interface is very good, and tailoring it to my needs has gone well. Since last night, I've loaded 126 conventional and 724 Talk Group frequencies, and 20 Trunked Systems. I have to agree with some of the reviews reporting on it's complexity, but with the help of the ARC-500 Software and a subscription to the Radio Reference Web downloader, loading this radio was a breeze. Just purchased mine yesterday and am quite impressed with this unit. These are quality units well sorted out with continued support from Grecomm when new firmware is needed. In summary I wish every piece of electronic gear I have purchased in my 50 years in radio and computers performed as well. Ham radio repeaters again are clear and reception is good with just the inside antenna.
In fact I hear so much I have shut off some districts that are of no interest to me. Here in Central Illinois our local, county, and state police + fire are all on P25 digital and I hear state police cars over 100 miles away with just the whip on the rear of the unit. I have recommend these units to friends and family, uploaded the police & fire channels for them and never once has any of them had an issue. The P25 audio & reception is as close to professional grade quality as you can get. The computer interface without exception connects to the computer and updates any change of either the latest firmware from Grecomm or changes I make in the channel lineup lighting fast. These units of mine have ran 24x7 for 3 years without a single issue. The PSR-600 works great and I am pleased with my purchase.īTW: the GRE support via email is very responsive and helpfulĪfter owning this unit plus the PSR 500 handheld for 3 years all I can say is WOW. After becoming familiar with the programing I moved on to the ARC500PRO I purchased separately it made programing the PSR-600 a breeze. The manual was confusing to me but I finally worked my way threw it. GRE provides one on the CD that comes with the rig but you have to print it out. One thing that really needs to be changed the lack of manual. I purchased my PSR-600 from R&L electronics, it arrived in 2 days in a well packed box via UPS. Some of the menu items can be hard to figure out but with Butel software down loading from radioreference was a breezeĮarlier 5-star review posted by N5ODX on Other scanners I have owned were very poor in this area. I choose the PSR-600 over the other scanner due to the more sensitive receiver.
#BUTEL ARC 500 UPDATE#
After the reband the ARC500 software was used to update the radio to the new reband with no problem. The 600 pulls in great signals, works great on the North Carolina VIPER system. I have a pre-amp in line and a home brew multi band antenna.
I use the ARC500Pro software, works great. I had mine about 3 years now with no problems.
